Engineering Leveling Guide

Primary profession1-300

Overview

Engineers build explosives, scopes, goggles and gadgets out of stone, bars and a little cloth. Almost all of it comes out of the ground, so Mining is the obvious second profession. The client shows the same thresholds as Classic for every recipe used here.

Beta build: the skill thresholds on this page were checked against the Forever beta client. Reagents and thresholds can still move before release, and a recipe that has gone yellow no longer gives a point on every craft, so buy a small margin.
  • Tools: buy a Blacksmith Hammer first. Most trainers stand near a Blacksmithing or Engineering Supply vendor; in Dun Morogh it is Thrawn Boltar in Kharanos and on Zephras Isle Aedi Thriceforged in Shen'dar Village. You craft the Arclight Spanner (50) and Gyromatic Micro-Adjustor (194) yourself: never sell them.
  • Chain crafting: powders, bolts, tubes, gizmos and frameworks made in one step are the reagents of a later one. The notes say what to keep.
  • Gnomes: Engineering Specialization no longer adds 15 skill. It now lowers the chance that your devices fail or backfire by 20%, so Gnomes follow the same route as everyone.
  • Weak Flux is sold by Engineering Supply vendors.
  • Camp items: Reagent Bot at skill 20 (1 Handful of Copper Bolts, 1 Copper Tube) puts a reagent vendor at your campfire. Repair Bot (skill 140: 2 Whirring Bronze Gizmo, 1 Bronze Tube, 1 Heavy Leather) adds repairs, and Anarchist's Workbench (skill 300) is a workstation; both need a blueprint.

Apprentice (1-50)

SkillCraftMaterials
1-3060× Rough Blasting PowderYellow from 20, so 60 usually lands a little past 30. Keep every one for the bombs.60 Rough Stone
30-5030× Handful of Copper BoltsKeep all 30 as well.30 Copper Bar
50-511× Arclight SpannerA permanent tool.6 Copper Bar

Journeyman (50-150)

SkillCraftMaterials
51-7530× Rough Copper BombYellow from 60. A lucky streak can carry you past 75, so train Journeyman before queuing all 30.30 Copper Bar
30 Handful of Copper Bolts
60 Rough Blasting Powder
30 Linen Cloth
75-9060× Coarse Blasting PowderYellow from 85. All 60 go into the dynamite.60 Coarse Stone
90-10020× Coarse DynamiteGreen at 97; twenty crafts are normally enough.60 Coarse Blasting Powder
20 Linen Cloth
100-1055× Silver ContactWhen silver is pricey: 5x Flying Tiger Goggles (30 Light Leather, 10 Tigerseye).5 Silver Bar
105-12525× Bronze TubeYellow throughout. If you end a point or two short, move on to the scopes anyway.50 Bronze Bar
25 Weak Flux
125-13510× Standard ScopeUses ten of the tubes. Without Moss Agate, start the Heavy Blasting Powder early.10 Bronze Tube
10 Moss Agate
135-15030× Heavy Blasting Powder, then
15x Whirring Bronze GizmoPowder first (it goes green at 135), gizmos second. Both are reagents for the sheep.
30 Heavy Stone
30 Bronze Bar
15 Wool Cloth

Expert (150-200)

SkillCraftMaterials
150-16015× Bronze FrameworkAll 15 are used in the next step.30 Bronze Bar

15 Whirring Bronze Gizmo
15 Bronze Framework
30 Wool Cloth
175-19460× Solid Blasting PowderGreen from 185, but the powder is needed up to 250. Beta shortcut if you stop at 200: only 10 powders (20 Solid Stone), then 20x Iron Grenade (20 Iron Bar, 20 Heavy Blasting Powder, 20 Silk Cloth).120 Solid Stone
194-1951× Gyromatic Micro-AdjustorThe second permanent tool. Short of 194? A few Iron Grenades close the gap.4 Steel Bar
195-2006× Mithril TubeYellow from 195.18 Mithril Bar

Artisan (200-300)

Not played yet: the beta level cap stops characters short of Artisan, so this range rests on the skill thresholds stored in the client, not on a tested run. Forever shifted many thresholds compared with Classic, so a Classic Era route is not a safe substitute. Check this part again at launch.
