Enchanting Leveling Guide — WoW For Forever

Overview

Enchanters break magic items down into dust, essences and shards, then spend them on permanent bonuses for gear. No gathering profession feeds it, so many players pair it with Tailoring and disenchant what they sew. Forever added several cheap low-level formulas, which makes the first 100 points lighter than in Classic.

Beta build: the skill thresholds on this page were checked against the Forever beta client. Reagents and thresholds can still move before release, and a recipe that has gone yellow no longer gives a point on every craft, so buy a small margin.

Vendor reagents: Copper Rod and Mote of Magic come from the Enchanting Supply vendor standing by each capital trainer. Starting-zone trainers have no such vendor, except on Zephras Isle where the trainer sells them herself.
Dust or essence: from 20 to 150 you can level on Strange Dust or on Lesser Magic Essence. A Greater Magic Essence splits into three Lesser ones with a right-click. Disenchanting your own green items is cheaper than either.
Rods: Silver, Golden, Truesilver and Arcanite Rods are made by Blacksmiths. Buy them on the Auction House or ask a smith.
Camp items: Enchanted Lute at skill 20 (1 Simple Wood, 1 Strange Dust) gives an armor, stats and resistances buff at a campfire. Arcane Salvager (skill 140) improves disenchanting and Arcane Forge (skill 300) is a workstation; both need a blueprint.
Faster crafting: pick the formula, put the item in the slot, then press this macro repeatedly:

Expert & Artisan

Expert

Hgarth — On the hill above Sun Rock Retreat, Stonetalon Mountains (Horde)
Kitta Firewind — Top of the Tower of Azora, Elwynn Forest (Alliance)

Artisan

Annora — Uldaman, Badlands (both factions)

Annora is the only Artisan trainer and several formulas from 230 upwards exist nowhere else. She stands in a side chamber of Uldaman (use the back entrance) and only appears once every enemy in that chamber is dead. The dungeon is not soloable at 35, so bring a group or a high-level friend, plus enough gold for all her formulas and about 100 Vision Dust to reach 250 before you leave.

Apprentice (1-70)

Skill	Craft	Materials
1-2	1× Runed Copper RodBoth reagents are vendor items.	1 Copper Rod 1 Mote of Magic
2-20	18× Enchant Bracer - Inferior StaminaYellow at 20.	18 Mote of Magic
20-70	50× Enchant Chest - Inferior StaminaEssence option: 50x Enchant Bracer - Minor Deflect (50 Lesser Magic Essence). Either stays orange up to 70.	50 Strange Dust

Journeyman (70-150)

Stay on the reagent you started with: the dust tab if you bought Strange Dust, the essence tab if you bought Lesser Magic Essence.

Skill	Craft	Materials
70-100	30× Enchant Bracer - Minor Stamina	60 Strange Dust
100-109	9× Enchant Cloak - Minor Protection	18 Strange Dust
109-110	1× Runed Silver Rod	1 Silver Rod 3 Strange Dust 4 Lesser Magic Essence 1 Shadowgem
110-130	32× Enchant Cloak - Minor ProtectionYellow from 110, so count on 32 casts for 20 points.	64 Strange Dust
130-150	20× Enchant Boots - Minor StaminaIf 20 Soul Dust cost less than 80 Strange Dust, cast Enchant Bracer - Lesser Stamina (1 Soul Dust) instead.	80 Strange Dust

Skill	Craft	Materials
70-100	33× Enchant Chest - Minor AbsorptionYellow from 90.	33 Lesser Magic Essence
100-109	18× Enchant Chest - Minor AbsorptionYellow all the way, roughly two casts per point.	18 Lesser Magic Essence

While you are at one of those formula vendors, also buy Formula: Lesser Wizard Oil for the step at 201.

Expert (150-225)

Skill	Craft	Materials
150-151	1× Runed Golden Rod	1 Golden Rod 1 Iridescent Pearl 1 Greater Astral Essence 1 Soul Dust
151-165	14× Enchant Bracer - Lesser StrengthFormula sold by Kulwia (Stonetalon Mountains, Horde) and Dalria (Ashenvale, Alliance).	14 Soul Dust
165-185	22× Enchant Boots - Lesser AgilityYellow from 180. Enchant Bracer - Spirit (1 Lesser Mystic Essence) is orange until 185 if that essence is the cheaper reagent. With Vision Dust overpriced on the beta, you can also push this enchant to 200 with about 22 more casts.	22 Soul Dust
185-200	15× Enchant Bracer - Strength	15 Vision Dust
200-201	1× Runed Truesilver Rod	1 Truesilver Rod 1 Black Pearl 1 Greater Mystic Essence 1 Vision Dust

220-225	5× Enchant Cloak - Greater Defense	5 Vision Dust

Artisan (225-300)

Not played yet: the beta level cap stops characters short of Artisan, so this range rests on the skill thresholds stored in the client, not on a tested run. Forever shifted many thresholds compared with Classic, so a Classic Era route is not a safe substitute. Check this part again at launch.

Unlike the armor professions, Enchanting kept nearly all of its Classic thresholds, so this range is the least likely to change.

Skill	Craft	Materials
225-230	5× Enchant Gloves - Agility	5 Vision Dust
230-235	5× Enchant Boots - Stamina	10 Vision Dust
235-250	20× Enchant Chest - Superior StaminaYellow from 240. Formula: Enchant Bracer - Greater Stamina is a world drop worth buying if you see it: 3 Dream Dust a cast and orange from 245 to 265.	60 Vision Dust
250-265	20× Lesser Mana OilYellow from 260. Formula from Kania, upstairs in the Silithus inn. No Purple Lotus? Annora's Enchant Bracer - Greater Strength (1 Dream Dust, 2 Lesser Nether Essence) is orange until 260.	20 Dream Dust 20 Purple Lotus 20 Crystal Vial
265-294	32× Enchant Shield - Greater StaminaYellow from 285. Bind-on-pickup formula from Daniel Bartlett (Undercity) or Mythrin'dir (Darnassus): buy it on the enchanter.	192 Dream Dust

295-300	5× Enchant Cloak - Superior DefenseAlso sold by Lorelae Wintersong. When Illusion Dust is too dear, Enchant Shield - Greater Stamina still gives points up to 300.	40 Illusion Dust
